The refrain of this song contains four very important words:
- quench: to satisfy
- penchant: a strong inclination towards
- take: to remove
- fill: to provide fully
and each of the verses has three pairs of these two words:
- take
- fill
Free will allows us to make choices about what we believe will quench our various needs and desires. We often know what the best things are. But because of our penchants for the wrong or less desirable ones, we sometimes suffer needlessly. So does our relationship with other people and with God Himself.
How much better if we pray for God to take away the objectionable longings, the ones that are bad for us, and fill us instead with things that are worthwhile and satisfying.
